Research Skills

Research Skills: The FDC Fellowship research training combines two approaches to teach research: a) the project method and b) formal courses in research. Under the guidance of your instructor and consultants, Fellows conceptualize, design, and conduct an individual research project. Fellows attend classes on research skills that parallel the timetable and progress of their projects. The research projects are completed and presented in both oral and written forms at the end of the Fellowship experience. We believe that this process allows Fellows to gain the following: an understanding of research concepts; the ability to choose appropriate research roles within their academic environments; the ability to critically evaluate research literature; and the skills to conduct studies. The specific skills that are addressed in this area are:
critical evaluation of the literature asking and refining the research question designing research projects data management statistical analysis and interpretation oral presentation of research and writing publishable research reports.
