The Family Practice Faculty Development Center (FDC) of Waco, Texas works to improve the academic infrastructure of Family Medicine education in Texas and the south central United States. The FDC staff is a small but very experienced group of educators who provide an annual faculty fellowship, two leadership conferences, teaching workshops, organizational retreats and other services to individual faculty and family medicine organizations. FDC works in collaboration with colleagues to plan and present these programs. Fellowship participants focus on developing a solid base of core academic skills and a commitment to a career of teaching, scholarly investigation and leadership in academic medicine. FDC strives to provide all of its trainees with a clearer understanding of educational systems and processes, so that they can work to improve family medicine education. Our organization is one of the best known professional development centers in the nation, and was awarded the 1997 Primary Care Achievement Award for Education by the Pew Health Professions Commission.
